Prior to becoming a member of the Highland Springs-Sandston Lions Club, Lion Susan was a member of the Cedarloo-Waterloo Breakfast Club in Iowa. During her years as a Lion in Iowa, Lion Susan has been Secretary and Newsletter Editor of her Club. She has served as Zone Chairman and Public Relations Chairman. She has been on the planning committee for two Mid Winter Leadership Conferences and one State Convention. At the last Mid Winter Leadership Conference she prepared food for 200 people to attend a reception and meet IVP Kay Fukushima.
Lion Susan is also the District Membership Chair for District 24-B. She is also a member of the LERM team (Leadership, Extension, Retention and Membership). Lion Susan was a persentor at the District Fall Conference, giving a seminar on Membership and Public Relations. Lion Susan is also a member of the Districts New Member Orientation Team. Next year Lion Susan will retain Membership Chair and will also be the Districts Newsletter editor. Lion Susan also is her clubs President (2003-2004).
Lion Susan has received the three 100% Secretary's Awards and four 100% Attendance Awards. In 2003, Susan received the International Presidents Certificate of Appreciation.
Lion Susan is a member of the Virginia Pin Traders Club, Lions International Pin Traders Club, Iowa Pin Traders Club, Arizona Pin Traders, and Lions On Lion. Lion Susan is the Newsletter Editor for the Pin Traders Club of Virginia.
Lion Susan enjoys Reading, Movies, Her Computer, Writing, Culinary Experiments, Designing Greeting Cards, Traveling, and Designing Pins.
As soon as she joined the Lions Club she started up the Club's Newsletter and named it. Lion Susan has worked diligently on all the fundraisers and volunteers when the Club does community events, such as the Community Meal every fifth Wednesday of the month. She has helped her Club start several projects to generate more funds. Last year as Zone Chairman she started a Zone newsletter called "Zone In" and helped raise the attendance of the meetings with an incentive of a Zone Excellence pin for attendance.
At the International Convention in Indianapolis she proudly received a Certificate of Appreciation for her work on the LOL Directory. She worked on the Elections Committee at the International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. She also worked the Internet Cafe at the International Convention in both Indianapolis, Indiana, and Denver, Colorado. Lion Susan has attended 4 International Conventions, and 6 USA/Canada Forums.
She feels that she is probably the only LOL member who does not have a great big list of awards and projects chaired but, as she puts it, "Hey, you have to start somewhere".
Lion Susan has a daughter and twin grandchildren, a boy and a girl. Lion Susan is a Medical Transcriptionist and a Mental Health Insurance Specialist. She also has a design business, Thevans Designs, with her husband, PDG Rich Evans. |
